Determination, a strong entrepreneurial spirit and life experience to care as you power up, Tommy Hilfiger, one of the best known fashion designers in North America.
His own career is a good example.
In an exclusive interview with Sun Media, which took place in New York hours before winning one of the best in the fashion industry Lifetime Achievement Award, Hilfiger took time to reflect on his career of 40 years.
His first adventure? Customization and sell T-shirts he bought travel weekend in New York from his hometown of Elmira, New York.
"I started T-shirts, and designed my first piece denim jacket, in 1971," said Hilfiger, who unofficially began his mark as a student of 17 years.
Soon he has used his entrepreneurial spirit in a small chain of stores called People's Square.
"It was fun, but I did not seriously enough at first the company. I learned a lot, after filing for bankruptcy at the age of 23 years. That's when I laid on my heart really build my brand and I got to the importance of considering both the creator and the business side of things, "said Hilfiger.

"When Oscar de la Renta and Giorgio Armani to work well into their 70s and 80s, I hope I can too," said Hilfiger, who grew up in a family of nine.

Hilfige, known in the fashion industry for hard work and philanthropy, has also supported emerging designers on the way.
