Allure Man Meets Chanel's Allure Man

 Danny Fuller admits his starter fragrance was a bottle of Armani's Acqua di Gio, but the professional surfer from

Hanalei, Hawaitt, is the new face of Chanel's Allure Homme Sport and is featured doing what he does best—taming

ferocious walls of water—in a TV spot shot by Oscar-winning director Kathryn Bigelow (The Hurt Locker). We caught

up with him during on dry land:

How long have you been surfing? Since I was about 15 as a professional. I'm 30 now. So I've been under water half my

life.

You should wear something like Old Spice. Uh, no.

A lot of men's fragrances these days are inspired by the ocean. Is this one of them? This one has more a mint and

mandarin scent to it, a combination of raw citrus.

What does the ocean smells like? Salt? Something very refreshing. It’s like a drug for me, really. Just hearing the

ocean or seeing the mist, it’s always really refreshing for me.

What’s it like to stand on top of a 20-foot wave? Your dealing with this raw energy, this power, and there are

consquences to every move you make. It’s like dancing on the water, on this little craft going 20, 30 miles an

hour.

What wave are you surfing in this ad? It's called Yokohama, or Yokes. It’s on the west side of Oahu. And it's

definitely not a very inviting place for most people, considering the dangerous coral reef it's near, and the

“friendly” big locals that live there. To be completely honest, my adrenaline was going.

How does this fragrance make you feel? When I put in on in the morning, it gives me a blast of confidence, of

strength. It's a good way to start the day.

You don’t wear this at the beach, do you? I do now!

But it must wear off in the water. You just reapply.

Which makes me think of sunscreen. What do you wear? I surf five to six hours at a time, so if I don't wear

something zinc-based, my face would fall off. I use thick white stuff from Shiseido. But I'll use Chanel now,

though.

Do you have a girlfriend? I got engaged in February, and it's probably the best thing that ever happened to me. I

probably wouldn't be here without her now. I’d be in the gutter.

Is she a surfer? She is a surfer, and she's from Hawaii, too. Really, she’s a model, but she surfs for fun. But the

women who surf professionally are getting better looking.

How should a woman smell? I don't know how to put words to it, but there are times when you walk by a woman and you

smell something and go, Whoa, what was that? It carries you with them. But not too strong.

Your body is incredible in this ad. How do you do it? I try to get in the water as much as possible, but that can be

difficult. If I'm in New York, I'll go to Bikram yoga classes, and I have a good boxing instructor.

What does that big tattoo on your stomach say? That's my surname, Fuller. I got that when I was 15. I have no

regrets, but I realize now, Yeah, you should be a little more conservative. But it's good piece of identification.
